NEWARK, N.J. -- David Hicks scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half to lead five Long Island University players in double figures in an 89-82 victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology 89-82 on Tuesday night.

Jamal Olasewere added 16 points for the Blackbirds (8-4), Jason Brickman had a career-best 15 on five 3-pointers, C.J. Garner had 14 and Julian Boyd had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Highlanders (2-8) led by as many as eight points in the first half, but the Blackbirds came back to trail 35-34 at halftime.

There were eight lead changes in the first 4:02 of the second half before jumpers by Olasewere and Hicks put Long Island in front 50-47 with 15 minutes remaining.

Chris Flores' 3-pointer for NJIT tied it before Olasewere's four free throws in the next 47 seconds put Long Island ahead to stay.

Isaiah Wilkerson led NJIT with 21 points.
