ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Austin Kenon scored 26 points and Virginia Military Institute defeated North Carolina-Asheville 83-72 on Friday.
Keith Gabriel added 22 points and Stan Okoye had 10 for the Keydets (8-5, 1-2 Big South Conference). Kenon's 3-pointer with 7:21 to play tied the score at 65 and sparked an 18-7 run for the Keydets. It was the third-lowest point total of the season for the Keydets, who came in as the nation's top-scoring team, averaging 93.3 points per game.The Keydets shot 43.5 percent (27 of 62) from the field and outscored the Bulldogs 17-8 on fast-break points.The Bulldogs missed six free throws and made just two field goals in the final seven minutes. The loss snapped a 13-game home winning streak.D.J. Cunningham had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-7, 1-2). Jaron Lane added 15 points, and J.P. Primm and Chris Stephenson each scored 12.
