BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Cameron Wells scored 18 of his team-leading 22 points in the second half to help The Citadel overcome a 13-point deficit and beat Samford 61-50 on Monday night.
The Citadel (6-13, 2-5 Southern Conference) trailed 38-25 with 15:01 left to play before an 8-0 run cut the lead to 38-33 with 10:08 to go. Wells nailed a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play to give The Citadel a 45-43 lead with 6:01 on the clock.
Samford (10-8, 2-4) made only one field goal the rest of the way and was outscored 24-7 over the final 7:44.
Zach Urbanus added 13 points for The Citadel, which shot 52 percent after halftime (13 of 25) and snapped a five-game losing streak. Wells also had a game-high eight rebounds.
