DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Charles Funches scored the game's first nine points on three quick 3-pointers and finished with 15 points as Hampton topped Bethune-Cookman 68-56 on Saturday.

The Pirates (15-4, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won three straight games and five of their last six, are now tied for the league lead with the Wildcats (10-9, 5-1), whose five MEAC wins all came on the road.

After leading 34-23 at halftime, the Pirates poured it on. Kwame Morgan scored six points during a 10-3 run and Wesley Dunning scored four in an 11-3 push to put Hampton in front 55-32 with 10:52 remaining.

The Pirates, who never trailed, got 12 points from Morgan, 11 from Darrion Pellum and 10 from Christopher Tolson.

Cold-shooting Bethune-Cookman, which has lost eight of its last nine games with Hampton, was led by C.J. Reed's 13 points. Stanley Elliott scored 12 and Mikel Trapp 10.
