Loyola Marymount falls short after slow start

LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Foster scored 28 points and Santa Clara defeated Loyola Marymount 79-72 Saturday night.

Marc Trasolini added 16 points, Evan Roquemore had 15 and Ben Dowdell 11 for the Broncos (14-9, 5-2 West Coast Conference), who have won a season-high four straight. Troy Payne had a career-high 12 rebounds and six steals.

Vernon Teel led the Lions (9-13, 1-6) with 21 points, Drew Viney scored 13 and Ashley Hamilton 12.

Santa Clara scored the first 11 points, went into halftime up 38-28 and led by 20 in the second half in sweeping the WCC's Los Angeles area schools -- it beat Pepperdine 71-59 Thursday -- on the road for the first time since 2005.

Foster added a career-high six steals and was 13 for 13 from the foul line.
