NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Kareem Maddox scored 16 points and Princeton defeated Yale 58-51 on Friday night for its 10th consecutive win.
Princeton, which swept the season series, led by as many as 14 points in the first half and was never threatened in the second half until the final 2 minutes.
Trailing by eight points with 3:34 to play, Yale cut the lead to 52-49 at the 1:47 mark. The Tigers made 4 of 5 free throws the rest of the way to seal the win.
Dan Mavraides scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Tigers (20-4, 8-0 Ivy League), who survived a cold-shooting night. The Tigers entered the game as the top shooting team in the conference, but shot only 31.6 percent (18 of 57) from the field including 16.7 (3 of 18) from 3-point range.
