MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Tramaine Butler scored 22 points to lead Alabama State over Prairie View A&M 68-61 on Saturday.
Butler was 7 of 17 from the field and 6 of 10 from the free-throw line for the Hornets (12-16, 9-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who won their sixth straight.
The Hornets led 45-32 with 16 minutes to go, and Prairie View A&M then cut it to 52-50 with 7:43 remaining after two baskets by Duwan Kornegay. That was as close as the Panthers would get, as Alabama State scored the next six points.
Alabama State shot 45.1 percent (23 of 51) and outrebounded the Panthers 34-26. The Hornets tallied 14 offensive rebounds, compared to eight by Prairie View A&M (8-20, 5-10).
The Panthers shot 44.2 percent (19 of 43), but turned it over 18 times. Alabama State had 15 turnovers, while dishing out 11 assists.
Kornegay scored 11 and Trant Simpson 10 to lead Prairie View A&M.
