North Texas ends regular season with victory

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Shannon Shorter scored a career-high 24 points and North Texas beat Arkansas-Little Rock 72-69 Tuesday night in the regular season finale for both.

Tristan Thompson added 15 points and Dominique Johnson had 12 for the Mean Green (19-10, 8-8), who edged the Trojans in the standings to earn the West Division No. 4 seed for the conference tournament. North Texas will play Troy on Saturday in the first round.

D'Andre Williams and Gus Leeper each scored 11 points to lead Arkansas-Little Rock (15-16, 7-9), which will face South Alabama in the opening round.

There were 16 lead changes and 13 ties before North Texas took the lead for good when Shorter scored with 2:37 left to make it 63-61.

The Mean Green played without second-leading scorer Josh White (foot injury) for the first time in 114 games.
