HOUSTON -- Kevin Galloway had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead Texas Southern past Alcorn State 79-68 on Saturday.

Five Tigers scored in double figures. Harrison Smith led the way with 16 points, Lawrence Johnson-Danner had 14 points, Justin Ray scored 13 and Travele Smith had 10 points and eight rebounds as Texas Southern opened an early 14-4 lead and led most of the way by double figures.

Texas Southern (18-11, 16-2), the SWAC regular-season champion, enjoyed its finest conference season since 1994-95. That team lost 79-78 in the NCAA tournament to Arkansas, the 1994 national champion who reached the championship game in 1995.

Willis Brownlee led Alcorn State (4-24, 4-14) with 13 points. Michael Martin had 12 points and Marquiz Baker had 10 for the Braves.
