AMHERST, Mass. -- Luke Fabrizius came off the bench to score 13 points as ninth-seeded Dayton coasted to a 78-50 win over No. 8 Massachusetts on Tuesday night in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament.
The Flyers (20-12), who will play top-seeded Xavier in the quarterfinals on Friday, accomplished their fourth consecutive season with 20 or more victories.Massachusetts (15-15) hosted the game between teams that were 7-9 in league play by virtue of its regular-season win over Dayton. But the Minutemen made just 20.7 percent (6 of 29) of their shots in a first half that ended with the Flyers leading 37-16.Dayton made 54.2 percent (13 of 24) of its first-half shots, including 7 of 10 from 3-point range.Josh Parker scored 11 points, and Chris Wright and Juwan Staten had 10 each for the Flyers.Freddie Riley scored 10 points and Anthony Gurley 10 for the Minutemen.
