EUGENE, Ore. (STATS) -- Garrett Sim scored a season-high 20 points as Oregon held off a second-half rally to slip past Duquesne 77-75 on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational.
The Ducks (18-17) had a double-digit lead in the second half cut to three before Malcolm Armstead fouled Duquesne's Sean Johnson on a 3-point attempt with 1.5 seconds to play. But Johnson made only the middle free throw, and Oregon's Joevan Catron grabbed the game-clinching rebound.Sim, who came in as the Ducks' fourth-leading scorer at 7.8 points per game, exceeded his average during a 2:07 stretch of the first half. With his team trailing 19-17 midway through the opening 20 minutes, Sim scored 10 quick points as part of an 11-3 run that gave Oregon a lead it would never surrender.Duquesne (19-13) hit 13 of 28 3-pointers to stay close. Senior Bill Clark, the Dukes' leading scorer, had 19 points in his final collegiate game.The Ducks advance to host Boise State in Wednesday's semifinals.
