CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Preston Ross came off the bench to score 19 points in 16 minutes as Western Carolina earned coach Larry Hunter his 600th career victory with a 109-63 win over Montreat on Tuesday night.

The Catamounts (1-1) scored the first 11 points in the game and were ahead 59-25 by halftime against the Cavaliers, an NAIA school that counted the game as an exhibition.

Tawaski King and Trey Sumler had 14 points apiece, Brandon Boggs 13 and Keaton Cole 11 for Western Carolina, which got points from all 12 players it used.

The Catamounts outscored Montreat 33-15 off turnovers and 48-28 in the paint.

Hunter, in his seventh season at Western Carolina, is 600-325 in 32 seasons, including previous head coaching jobs at Wittenburg and Ohio.

Tyler Buff scored 20 points to lead the Cavaliers, who also got 16 points from Dustin Harris and 12 from LaBris Adams.
