VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Sean Johnson scored 24 points, going 8-for-8 from the line, to lead Duquesne past Akron 81-76 on Saturday in the 2K Sports Classic.

Eric Evans added 15 points, B.J. Monteiro 14 and T.J. McConnell 12 for the Dukes (3-1).

Zeke Marshall scored 19 points and Brent McClanahan 18 to pace the Zips (2-2). Brian Walsh added 11 and Demetrius Treadwell 10, while Quincy Diggs had a game-best nine assists.

Both teams shot well. Duquesne hit 30 of 55 (54.5 percent) and Akron 28 of 49 (57.1 percent). In fact, the Zips shot better from the field than from the line, making just 14 of 28 (50 percent) free throws.

Akron battled back from a 38-30 halftime deficit, tying the game at 50.

Then Mike Talley scored with 9:53 left for a 52-50 Duquesne lead, and the Dukes never trailed after that.
