THIBODAUX, La. -- Charles Winborne scored 19 points and Louisiana-Monroe defeated Nicholls State 86-65 on Monday night, for its first win of the season.
The Warhawks (1-6) shot 62 percent from the field (31 of 50) for their highest shooting percentage in a game since December 2009. It was also the Warhawks' highest point total of the season.
Up by two, 36-34, at halftime, Louisiana-Monroe shot 65.5 percent from the field in the second half (19 of 29) and outscored Nicholls State 50-31 in the final 20 minutes.
The Warhawks scored eight straight points, including a pair of 3-pointers from Fred Brown, to build a 52-44 advantage midway through the second half.
