MIAMI -- Scott Thomas scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Bowling Green erased a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Florida International 61-53 Thursday night for its first road win in five tries this season.
Thomas also had four steals for the Falcons (6-5) and needs two more points to become the first player in school history to reach 1,000 career points with 500 rebounds, 100 3-pointers and 150 steals.
Bowling Green never led until Dee Brown's layup made it 39-38 with 10:30 remaining. The teams traded baskets until Thomas' jumper with 7:19 left and his 3-pointer 1:10 later put Bowling Green ahead 46-42, and it never trailed again.
Jeremy Allen led the Golden Panthers (3-9) with 17 points, including 10 in the first half, which ended with FIU leading 29-25.
In the second half, though, Bowling Green outshot FIU 58.3 percent (14 of 24) to 32.1 percent (9 of 28).
