MONROE, La. -- Marcus Hooten hit a jumper, was fouled with 4.8 seconds left and made the ensuing free throw to give Arkansas State a 65-63 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
The Red Wolves (7-8, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) trailed 31-22 at halftime and outscored the Warhawks 43-32 in the second half, while turning the ball over just once. Arkansas State scored 11 points off of six second-half turnovers by Louisiana-Monroe (1-14, 0-2).
The Red Wolves shot 58.3 percent in the second half (14 of 24), after going 8 of 22 from the field in the first (36.4 percent).
Fred Brown scored 20 points to lead the Red Wolves, who lost their eight straight.
