HONOLULU -- Zane Johnson scored 18 of his season-high 29 points in the first half as Hawaii defeated New Mexico State 91-87 on Saturday night.
Johnson, a senior, shot 7 of 13 from 3-point range and was 10 of 17 from the field to help the Rainbow Warriors (11-8, 3-2 WAC) snap a two-game losing streak.
Hawaii led 71-52 after Hauns Brereton's layup midway through the second half. However, New Mexico State made a late charge and pulled within four points several times in the final minute, but got no closer.
Johnson (stomach flu) did not play in Hawaii's four-point loss to Louisiana Tech on Thursday.
