BOONE, N.C. -- Tyler Hood scored six of his 18 points during the go-ahead run to help Samford defeat Appalachian State 53-50 on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs (7-15, 4-7 Southern Conference) trailed 44-43 with 6:34 remaining before Hood converted on a three-point play. Appalachian State's Jamaal Trice then missed three 3-pointers and Hood hit one of his own to put the Bulldogs up 49-44 with 2:33 left. Samford would lead the rest of the way, winning for the third time in its last four.
The Bulldogs outscored Appalachian State 27-19 in the second half, while not turning it over once during the period.
Appalachian State finished shooting just 4 of 7 from the free-throw line. Nathan Healy scored 14 points for the Mountaineers (9-12, 5-6).
