CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Trent Wiedeman scored 18 points and College of Charleston squandered a 17-point lead before rallying to defeat Georgia Southern 58-53 Thursday night, snapping the Eagles' six-game winning streak and splitting the season series.
The Cougars (18-11, 9-8 Southern Conference), who have won five of their last six, led 25-8 with 12 minutes elapsed.
The Eagles (14-13, 12-5) trimmed the deficit to 30-23 at halftime. They got within a point three times in the second half before pulling ahead 51-49 with 3:01 to go on back-to-back 3-pointers by Jessie Pernell and Tre' Bussey.
Anthony Stitt answered with a 3 and Wiedeman a layup to put Charleston up 54-51with 1:25 to go.
The Cougars sank 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch as the Eagles shot 1 of 3 from the field.
Willie Powers scored 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead Georgia Southern, which beat Charleston 64-58 on Jan. 21.
