NORFOLK, Va. -- Rayshawn Goins scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half as James Madison held off Old Dominion 58-55 Wednesday night in the Dukes' Colonial Athletic Association opener.
James Madison (7-6, 1-0) has won four straight and six of its last seven, losing only to Richmond 83-82 in overtime during the stretch. The Dukes snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Monarchs (2-12, 0-2), who jumped out to an 11-2 lead before James Madison caught up.
The Dukes led 25-24 at the break, then Andre Nation hit a 3-pointer and Goins made a layup to push the lead to six.
Old Dominion closed to within two points on four occasions, but could get no closer.
Goins also led James Madison with nine rebounds, while Ron Curry added 13 points and four assists.
