DAYTON, Ohio -- Khalif Wyatt grabbed his left thumb -- the one alarmingly wrapped in black support tape -- pulled it toward his stomach and grimaced.His non-shooting hand dangled uselessly as he set up behind the free throw line. He carefully placed it on the bottom of the ball, cautiously dribbled a couple times, then put both hands on it and let it fly.

X factor: NC State refused to play defense for the majority of the game. That's why the Owls shot 48 percent from the field and committed just five turnovers.

NC State scored six points off turnovers in its loss to Temple, the Wolfpacks' second fewest points off turnovers in a game this season. They had four in their loss to Virginia on Jan. 29. NC State is 5-7 this season when scoring 10 or fewer points off turnovers and 19-4 when they score at least 11.
Khalif Wyatt scored 31 points in Temple's win against NC State. It was his sixth 30-point game this season. Wyatt scored 26 of his 31 points either in the paint or at the free throw line. Wyatt drew nine fouls in the game, six fewer than what NC State drew as a team.
Khalif Wyatt's 31 points are the most by a Temple player in the NCAA Tournament since 1991, when Mark Macon scored 31 in the Owls' Elite 8 loss.
