Middle Tennessee upends South Alabama 65-55

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Kerry Hammonds II and Neiko Hunter scored 14 points apiece and put in a solid second-half performance in helping Middle Tennessee overcome an eight-point halftime deficit to get past South Alabama 65-55 on Saturday.

Hammonds II and Hunter also teamed up for 15 rebounds while Tweety Knight added 12 points for Middle Tennessee.

South Alabama (4-3) led at halftime 34-26, but Middle Tennessee (6-1) persevered and tied it up at 49 on two free throws with seven minutes left. The Jaguars were able to stay with the Blue Raiders until Middle Tennessee hit 9 of 10 free throws on a nine-point run in the final minutes while the Jags failed to answer shooting from the field. The Jaguars scored just 21 second half points.

Augustine Rubit led all scorers with 15 points and Mychal Ammons grabbed 10 rebounds for the Jaguars, who were held to just 27 percent shooting.
