FAIRFAX, Va. -- Jalen Jenkins had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in 17 minutes to help George Mason outlast Rhode Island 61-54 on Saturday.
The game was tied 54-54 when Marko Gujanicic made two free throws with 1:51 left to give George Mason (5-2) the lead for good. Bryon Allen made a layup with 39 seconds left to extend the lead to 58-54 and George Mason stopped Xavier Munford from scoring on the next possession to secure the win.
Sherrod Wright had 16 points and Gujanicic had 13 for George Mason.
Munford tied the game on a jumper at the 7:55 mark and neither team led by more than two until Mason pulled away late. Munford led Rhode Island (6-3) with 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting.
Though the game counts as a nonconference result, the teams will play an official Atlantic 10 contest on Jan. 18 at Rhode Island.
