LORMAN, Miss. -- Malcolm Miller scored 18 points and finished with 10 rebounds as Southern University grabbed the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season title with a 67-54 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night.
The Jaguars pulled into the lead with 7 minutes remaining in the first half and led the rest of the way. Southern (18-11, 14-2) finished with 22 more points in the paint than the Braves, and got 14 more points from its bench.Alcorn State (11-17, 8-8) shot 29.1 percent (16 of 55) from the floor. The Braves closed out the game on a 13-5 run to cut a 21-point deficit to 13 by games end.LeAntwan Luckett scored 18 points to lead the Braves.The SWAC announced on Saturday that schools ineligible for the postseason because of poor APR scores -- which includes Southern -- will be allowed to compete in the conference tournament on March 11-15.
