Shooting free throws, Rick Barry-style

Charleston's Canyon Barry, son of NBA legend Rick Barry, shoots free throws underhanded like his dad did, and there's something to be said for the granny-style shot: Barry leads the Cougars in free-throw percentage.

Monmouth has best bench in basketball

It's hard to pick the best celebration. The Human Scissors? The Katniss Everdeen? The OMG? The Human Hoop? All of them are too good!

Michigan State rising in Power Rankings

It was a big week for the Spartans, as Tom Izzo won his 500th game and Denzel Valentine carried the team to the title at the Wooden Legacy. That performance moved them up to No. 2, just behind Kentucky. Week 4 Power Rankings

Murphy pulls off swinging, putback jam

Minnesota's Dupree McBrayer missed the 3-pointer, but Jordan Murphy was there to grab the rebound and slam it down with authority.

Ben Simmons was criticized for being too timid last week. Tonight, he goes 4-for-15 and forces things. Still finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds but LSU couldn't overcome a 41-17 deficit in the first half of their loss to College of Charleston. The Tigers might have the most explosive and versatile offensive player outside the NBA, but bad defense will leave them at the bottom of the SEC. Need Keith Hornsby and Craig Victor like yesterday.

Kentucky improves to 7-0

Guard Isaiah Briscoe led the No. 1 team in the nation to a 75-63 win over Illinois State thanks to 18 points and 7 boards. Marcus Lee contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds off the bench in the win. Box score

Alex Poythress throws it down

The Kentucky F showed there were no ill effects from his ACL injury with this slam against Illinois State. The No. 1 Wildcats lead by double digits with less than 2 minutes to play on ESPN2.

Jamal Murray angered after hard foul

The Kentucky G drew a big foul against Illinois State, and after looking like some words would be exchanged, he just walked away. The No. 1 Wildcats have a double-digit lead on ESPN2.

Nasty collision for Jamal Murray against Illinois State. Got up quick, looked like he wanted to fight before guys pulled him away. So talented but he's going to get hit like that all season, even more frequently in SEC play. Has to maintain his poise. Has already drawn a few technicals this season for losing by his cool.

Isaiah Briscoe scores off inbounds pass

The Kentucky G drove to the lane, caught the inbounds pass and scored a layup to build the No. 1. Wildcats' lead over Illinois State on ESPN2.

Eamonn Brennan ESPN Staff Writer

Looking down the box score, it's fairly easy to identify the two culprits in Kentucky's 31-31 tie with Illinois State: free throws (8-of-17) and offensive rebounds (of which UK has just one). Kentucky entered Monday grabbing 43.6 percent of its available misses, fifth-best in the country. If the second half includes a few more makes at the free throw line, and a few more extended possessions -- even as a bare minimum -- John Calipari's team should be fine.

Dana O'Neil ESPN Senior Writer

In games like this, Kentucky usually comes back in second half with a 50-0 run or something like that. But what kind of motor can Cats generate without Ulis?

Kentucky-Illinois State tied 31-31 at half

The No. 1 team is looking to improve to 7-0, and steals and buckets like this can help get the Wildcats there. But first they have to get through the Redbirds, who are keeping up on ESPN2.

Kentucky making plays at home

No. 1 Kentucky's Marcus Lee slammed one home off a nice pass from Isaiah Briscoe in the first half vs. Illinois State. The Wildcats have a small lead on ESPN2.
