Knee injury likely to keep Gators' Nelson out of bowl
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida safety Reggie Nelson will probably miss the Outback Bowl because of a knee injury.
Coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday that Nelson sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during practice Monday and could miss the Jan. 2 game against No. 25 Iowa.
"It's going to be tough for him to be ready for that game," Meyer said. "He's not ruled out yet."
Meyer added that Nelson had only a "very, very slight" chance of playing.
Nelson, a sophomore who started the last four games at free safety in place of Kyle Jackson, was wearing a hard cast on his leg but will not need surgery.
Jackson or Tony Joiner would start for No. 16 Florida if Nelson can't go.
