OHIO vs. SOUTHERN MISS ESPN'S TAKE |
Ohio kept Southern Miss out of the end zone in the first quarter, but the Golden Eagles had too much athleticism to be contained for long. USM boasts quickness on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the Eagles swarmed Ohio, holding the Bobcats to 46 yards rushing. Quarterback Jeremy Young got the Eagles out in front early, completing 14-of-22 passes for 162 yards. It was Southern Miss's powerful freshmen backs, though, who did all of the scoring: Damion Fletcher rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns, and Tory Harrison chipped in 68 yards and another score. Both showed amazing cutback ability and are the reason Southern Miss will be a tough team to beat next season. The Eagles did a good job of gang-tackling Ohio's leading rusher, Kalvin McRae, who missed practice leading up to the game because of a death in the family. McRae finished the game without a touchdown and with just 37 total yards. -- Jim Donnan

Golden Game
It was a short trip from Hattiesburg to Mobile for Southern Miss and it ended up just like a home game for Jeff Bower's club. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a four-TD lead and cruised to a 28-7 win over Ohio in the lowest scoring game in GMAC Bowl history. Recap
