Lights go back on at Mansfield after 121 years

MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The school that hosted football's first night game more than a century ago is finally installing permanent lights.

Mansfield University announced Friday it will begin installing a new artificial playing surface and lights at Karl Van Norman Field this spring.

The then-Mansfield State Normal School hosted the first night football game in 1892 against Wyoming Seminary. Lights were provided by the company that later became General Electric.
