Fifty years after Cornell forfeited a fifth-down victory over Dartmouth, No. 12 Colorado beat Missouri, 33-31, when the seven-man Big Eight officiating crew failed to notice that quarterback Charles Johnson's two-yard winning touchdown came on, yep, fifth down. Colorado refused entreaties to follow in Cornell's footsteps, saying, correctly, that the NCAA rules don't allow it. As the Buffs ascended to No. 1, the stench of the Missouri victory followed close behind.
