Philadelphia | Nov. 30, 1946
The 1946 Army Cadets hadn't lost a game in three years. Navy was 0-7. Of course, no matter. The Midshipmen, trailing 21-18, reached the Cadets' 3, first-and-goal, with 1:30 to play. Army's Goble Bryant and Hank Foldberg stuffed Lynn Chewning at the line. Navy got off two more plays but ended up at its 5. Navy coach Capt. Tom Hamilton refused to kick a field goal. Ties, he said famously, were like kissing your sister.
