Kiper: Paxton Lynch on latest Big Board

A handful of new names dot Mel Kiper's latest Big Board, but Paxton Lynch of Memphis is the biggest mover. A quarterback with good size, he could end up as a first-round pick someday.

Cody Kessler is 2/7 for -1 yard and 2 interceptions but the game is still scoreless. Washington can't capitalize on his mistakes.

I watched both of these QBs last year and seeing them tonight, it's clear both Houston's Greg Ward and SMU's Matt Davis have taken significant steps forward in their development. Both are having strong nights so far. It's all tied up 21-21 late in the second quarter in Houston.

SMU QB Matt Davis off to a nice start. 9-of-14 passing for 107 yards, 2 TDs plus 73 rushing and a TD. SMU leads UH 21-14 (6:16 Q2) #SMUvsHOU

Washington at (17) USC on ESPN

USC coach Steve Sarkisian will face his former team for the first time when Washington heads to the Coliseum. Despite the loss to Stanford, USC is ranked No. 2 in ESPN's FPI and has a 44% chance to win the Pac-12. Live on ESPN, WatchESPN

SMU hits back in a hurry

Matt Davis completed a 9-yard pass to Ryheem Malone for 9 yds for SMU's second TD of the night. Last season against Houston, the Mustangs scored a total of 9 points en route to a 26-point loss.

Houston answers to even score

Greg Ward Jr. ran for 10 yards for a TD. The rushing TD is Ward's 8th of the year, and the Cougars are on the board live on ESPN2.

More bad news on the D-line for Nebraska: Freedom Akinmoladun is out with a knee injury. The whole front four is dangerously thin. And true freshman RB Jordan Stevenson is set to shed his redshirt against Wisconsin.

Illinois RB Josh Ferguson ruled out for Saturday's game at No. 22 Iowa. Freshman Ke'Shawn Vaughn likely will get the bulk of the carries for the Illini.

Florida State backup running back Mario Pender won't play against Miami, but the redshirt junior is out of the hospital. He suffered a collapsed lung Sept. 22 after bumping into a lineman at practice. Pender lost 18 pounds in the hospital and will miss a few weeks, but Fisher said he is in "great spirits."

Houston hosts SMU

Houston has dominated this Texas rivalry, winning 11 of the last 13 matchups, and SMU hasn't won on the road since 2005. QB Greg Ward Jr. is the only player in the nation averaging 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing per game. ESPN2/WatchESPN

It's going to be a beautiful night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where No. 17 USC is set to host Washington (9 p.m, ET, ESPN). Who to watch: JuJu Smith-Schuster and Adoree' Jackson. When targeting either of them, USC QB Cody Kessler has connected on 34-of-39 passes (87.5 percent) for 730 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception this year.

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook (left hamstring) practiced the last two days, but Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said it's still up in the air if Cook plays against Miami on Saturday. The fact Cook has practiced is probably a good sign he'll be able to play in some capacity for the No. 12 Seminoles. Senior linebacker Terrance Smith (ankle) is out, but safety Nate Andrews (knee bruise) could see a limited role.

Baylor RB Shock Linwood has been the Big 12's best runner this season. According to ESPN Stats and Information, Linwood is averaging 4.42 yards after contact per rush. His ability to run through tackles has helped him average 9.42 yards per carry. Even in a conference full of stars at QB and WR, Linwood will deserve Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year consideration if he continues to put up big numbers.

Mike Warren has taken over as Iowa State's primary RB and has ignited the running game. The Cyclones rushed for more than 200 yards in back-to-back games for the first time since 2013 with Warren leading the way. The redshirt freshman rushed for 126 yards against Toledo and 175 yards against Kansas. He could be important against Texas Tech on Saturday as Iowa State looks to limit the chances it gives the Red Raider offense.

The University of Oregon is offering free tickets to this Saturday's Washington State game to Umpqua Community College students and staffers. Oregon has already added decals to their helmets to honor the victims and community of the UCC shooting but it's great to see Oregon continuing to reach out in different ways.
