Tate and Golic predict Texas-Notre Dame

Former Notre Dame WR Golden Tate said "I feel right back at home" on SportsCenter from South Bend, and predicted a big win in a high-scoring game for Notre Dame vs. Texas.

Darren Rovell @darrenrovell

There are guys in this business that do this job with such ease that you can only marvel at them. Chris Fowler is in that select group.

Nick Wagoner @nwagoner

Chris Fowler just said his goodbyes to College Gameday and it was every bit as sincere and outstanding as his work on the show.

Could Nebraska fall in Lincoln?

Nebraska hasn't lost a season opener since 1985, but the College GameDay crew thinks BYU could end that streak today. Kirk Herbstreit: "I think BYU is one of those upset specials everyone keeps talking about."

DWade @DwyaneWade

ok ok! it's time to see why part of my house is decorated with Nebraska memorabilia. Headed to Lincoln for my very first @Huskers game.

David Pollack's 54-inch box jump

Box jump videos were all the rage this offseason, as players showed off their vertical leap. On College GameDay, ESPN's David Pollack showed the kids how it's done.

The SEC Nation crew just previewed the impact of defensive coordinators Will Muschamp at Auburn and John Chavis at Texas A&M. But how much better do they have to make their respective defenses to be contenders? 10 percent? 20? 40? It certainly doesn't have to be 100. With their high-powered offenses, a complete turnaround Year 1 isn't necessary. Simply stealing a few more possessions per game will have an enormous impact.

Wired with Nebraska coach Mike Riley

The new Nebraska coach tells College GameDay: "To be nationally dominant is a hard thing to do. You're talking about a team that's been winning 9 games for a long time. Everybody wants that next step."

College football cram session

There are two hours until kickoff, but until then, class is in session. CFB 101 reviews everything you need to know for this season.

Harbaugh can only do so much

Kirk Herbstreit says of Michigan's opening loss in Jim Harbaugh's first game: "He inherited what he has. Jim Harbaugh needs 2-3 years to recruit his personnel to run his scheme."

Player delivers Jadeveon Clowney-like hit

Montana State LB Mac Bignell decleated a Fort Lewis running back with a vicious hit in the second quarter Friday night.

ICYMI: Boise St. escapes with win

Washington's game-tying field goal attempt in the closing seconds was inches wide as Chris Petersen falls 16-13 against No. 23 Boise State.

Illinois' home opener against Kent State was postponed from Friday night after more than a 2-hour lightning delay. Illinois will play 2 p.m. today - and the Illini are still honoring last night's tickets and selling new ones for $5 and $10. That's cheaper than StubHub, where the cheapest is going for $6.

GameDay reminisces about former host

College GameDay welcomed Rece Davis today but took a moment to remember his predecessor, Chris Fowler, who is focusing on play-by-play this season but "poured his heart and soul" into the show.

Kelly: 'You have to get to the playoffs'

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says of his expectations for 2015: "We don't have a conference championship to play for. ... You have to get to playoffs. That's what we're committed to."

Big money for Week 1

Schools will pay out nearly $13M to opponents this weekend in guarantee games, reports Darren Rovell. The biggest check? That'd be the $1.3M USC is paying Arkansas State, a 28-point underdog against the Trojans.
