Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher names Everett Golson his starting quarterback for Texas State. On an offense without many proven commodities, Golson has the big-game experience and gives the Seminoles' offense a few more elements that will benefit a team in transition. Florida State had a player drafted this spring at every offensive position, so there will be a lot placed on Golson's and RB Dalvin Cook's shoulders.

Here's an extreme rarity: A true freshman Nebraska defender awarded a Blackshirt at the open of his career. LB Dedrick Young said he'll wear the jersey proudly.

Grad transfer quarterbacks now named starters at Oregon (Vernon Adams), Florida State (Everett Golson) and Georgia (Greyson Lambert). Possibly will see another at Michigan (Jake Rudock). This train isn't slowing down. Will only see more QBs look to move on after they get their degrees.

Seminoles to start Golson under center

Less than four months after transferring to Florida State, Everett Golson will start at QB against Texas State. Golson, who beat out Sean Maguire for the starting job, threw for 3,445 yards and 29 TDs last season at Notre Dame.

Briles: Ukwuachu story not a distraction

"Honestly, I haven't felt anything," Baylor coach Art Briles said of the fallout from the Sam Ukwuachu ordeal. "The thing about youth that keeps me going is they're so resilient, first and foremost, and forgiving, non-judgmental. ... That part has allowed us to function as normal as possible." Briles speaks

As expected, Texas coach Charlie Strong named junior Tyrone Swoopes his starting QB on Monday. Strong said he's know that would be the plan for several weeks. "He's won over the team," Strong said. The Longhorns still plans to use backup QB Jerrod Heard at some point against Notre Dame on Saturday.

Ohio State WR Michael Thomas evaluated the progress of converted QB Braxton Miller, who is set to make his return for the Buckeyes on Monday at Virginia Tech: "All-around, complete athlete," Thomas said. "You're starting to see a guy who went from not really knowing what to do and now has come a long way. I feel like he's ready to show it on Monday."

Mike Leach puts an "OR" between QBs Luke Falk and Peyton Bender on depth chart. Just Leach being Leach or true intrigue? Just about everyone believes Falk will start vs. Portland State, but at the very least this confirms that Bender impressed Leach and could be a factor this season.

McGee: Surprises in college football

In 2013, no one saw Jameis Winston coming. In 2014, no one saw Ohio State or its title-winning quarterback(s). So what out-of-left-field storyline does Ryan McGee predict for this season? Don't sleep on the Pac-12

Urban Meyer is still planning to wait until "the first guy takes the snap" to reveal Ohio State's starting QB. With what he views as similar skill sets with Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett, Meyer doesn't feel rushed -- but appears to be more seriously considering playing both guys. "I'd like to see both guys involved," Meyer said.

Gators LB Morrison to start in opener

Antonio Morrison, who injured his left knee in January and needed two surgeries, will play against New Mexico State on Saturday. "It's unbelievable what he's done," coach Jim McElwain said. "What normally was a 10- to 12-month recovery, he did in six months. We've had the doctor in a bunch, probably more so for me not believing him." Morrison led Florida with 101 tackles last season.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva pinch hit for Les Miles at his weekly luncheon. Miles had a headache this morning and was checked out at the hospital as a precautionary measure. Alleva's statement: "Obviously Coach Miles is not here. He’s a little bit under the weather. He was working this morning in his office. He didn’t feel very well, he went down to see the trainers, the trainers thought it would be best for him to go to the hospital and get checked out on a precautionary basis. We feel like he’s fine. He’ll be at practice today and he will be available to all of you after practice.”

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said he has a "good idea" as to who will start at QB for the Seminoles. Fisher said he wants to tell his team first and then will alert the media. Fisher will speak after practice today, so a decision should be announced publicly Monday evening. Practice begins around 4:30.
