First trip to Vegas for OSU
LAS VEGAS -- New Mexico will play Oregon State University in the 12th annual Las Vegas Bowl on Christmas Eve, bowl officials announced Monday.
New Mexico (8-4, 5-2) completed its Mountain West Conference season Nov. 22 with a 26-3 win over Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. The Lobos will be making their eighth bowl appearance, including the third in the last seven seasons.
Oregon State (7-4, 4-3), representing the Pac-10, has one game remaining at the University of Southern California on Saturday. It will be making its eighth bowl appearance, the fourth in the last five seasons.
Bob De Carolis, Oregon State athletic director, called his team's bowl selection a great reward for a successful season.
Oregon coach Mike Riley said he thought the game will be great for the Beavers.
The game will be played at 40,000-seat Sam Boyd Stadium and televised live on ESPN. Each team will get a payout of about $800,000.
