MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Conference USA champion Southern Mississippi will face Mountain West champ Utah in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31.

Southern Mississippi (9-3, 8-0) will be making its third Liberty Bowl appearance. The Golden Eagles beat Pittsburgh 41-7 in 1997, and defeated Colorado State 23-17 in 1999.

Utah (9-2, 6-1) played in the Liberty Bowl before the game was held in Memphis. The Utes beat West Virginia 32-6 in the 1964 Liberty Bowl, held in Atlantic City.
