Interim coach Cabral pleased with progress
BOULDER, Colo. -- Lawrence Vickers carried 21 times for 94 yards and Joel Klatt passed for 89 yards and a touchdown as White defeated Black 17-13 in Colorado's spring intrasquad game on Saturday.
Brian White completed 11 of 17 passes for 101 yards with one TD and one interception for the Black team.
Klatt, the Buffaloes' starting quarterback, was 8-for-12 with no interceptions. Erik Greenberg, also playing on the White team, was 4-for-6 passing with 92 yards and one interception.
Interim head coach Brian Cabral, who is filling in for the suspended Gary Barnett, said it was a good end to a productive spring camp.
"On offense and defense, I think we built a solid foundation this spring. We needed to do that; we needed to get back to basics. For a young team we needed to do a lot of things better, and we did that," Cabral said.
Barnett was suspended on Feb. 19 over comments he made after two women said they were sexually assaulted by football players. University officials said they will decide his future after an independent panel finishes an investigation into CU recruiting practices.
Ron Monteilh caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Klatt and finished with 19 yards on thee catches. Mike Duren caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Greenberg. He finished with 56 yards on two catches.
Jo Klopfenstein had three receptions for 42 yards for the Black team, including an eight-yard TD pass from White.
