Lambright to undergo surgery for bladder cancer

5/11/2004 - Washington Huskies

SEATTLE -- Former University of Washington head football
coach Jim Lambright has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and will
undergo surgery Wednesday to remove his bladder and prostate gland,
the university announced.

The surgery will be done at the University of Washington Medical
Center. In April, Lambright had a tumor removed from his bladder.

"The good thing is it looks like they got it early enough,"
Lambright said in a statement released by the university.

Lambright, 62, has been out of coaching since he was fired by
Washington after the 1998 season. He compiled a 44-25-1 record as
Washington's head coach from 1993-1998.

He began a 30-year coaching career at Washington as an assistant
in 1969 after playing for the Huskies.
