McLEAN, Virginia -- Miami fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and slipped to No. 10 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll released Sunday.

One of seven unbeaten teams in Division I-A before Saturday, Miami (6-1) lost at North Carolina 31-28 and dropped seven places.

Florida State (6-2) was the other powerhouse to take a major fall, slipping from No. 5 to a tie for 13th after a 20-17 loss at Maryland in another Atlantic Coast Conference upset.

The top four teams -- Southern California (8-0), Oklahoma (8-0), Auburn (9-0) and Wisconsin (8-0) -- are among the six unbeaten teams.

No. 1 USC rolled to a 42-12 rout of Washington State and received three more first-place votes than last week, raising its total to 52 and 1,516 points.

Oklahoma barely escaped with a 38-35 win at Oklahoma State and lost three-first place votes, dropping its total to eight along with 1,459 points.

Auburn moved up into Miami's former spot at No. 3 and picked up the other first-place vote. The Tigers won at Mississippi 35-14 on Saturday. Idle Wisconsin jumped two spots to No. 4.

The other two unbeatens are non-BCS schools -- Utah (8-0) and Boise State (8-0). Utah of the Mountain West Conference moved up two places to No. 8 after a 51-28 victory over San Diego State. Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference remained at No. 15 after a 69-3 rout of Hawaii on Friday.

Georgia (7-1), California (6-1), Texas (7-1) and Michigan (8-1) each jumped two spots. Georgia beat Florida 31-24 and rose to No. 5; California ascended to No. 6 after a 27-0 victory over Arizona State; Texas is at No. 7 following a 31-7 victory over Colorado; and Michigan rose to No. 9 after rallying from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit and defeating Michigan State in triple overtime 45-37.

Tennessee (7-1) and West Virginia (7-1) each moved up one place to 11th and 12th, respectively. Idle Virginia (6-1) is tied with Florida State at 13th.

Idle Louisville (5-1) is 16th followed by Louisiana State (5-1), Virginia Tech (6-2), Oklahoma State (6-2) and Iowa (6-2).

Southern Mississippi (5-1), Texas A&M (6-2), Arizona State (6-2), Northern Illinois (7-2) and Boston College (5-2) complete the poll.

Purdue (5-3) dropped out after its third straight loss along with fellow Big Ten Conference member Minnesota (6-3).
