Tigers are within two points of No. 2
Following another impressive performance, Auburn moved within two points of No. 2 Oklahoma in the latest ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll released Sunday.
In another statement game, Auburn coasted to a 24-6 victory over then-No. 5 Georgia on Saturday. The Tigers (10-0) remained third in the rankings, garnering four first-place votes and 1,433 points overall.
Oklahoma (10-0) also continued its unbeaten season with a 30-3 victory over Nebraska. The Sooners, who also are ahead of the Tigers in the BCS rankings, picked up six first-place votes and 1,435 points overall.
Top-ranked Southern California (10-0) moved a step closer to an unbeaten season with a 49-9 rout of Arizona. The Trojans again received 50 first-place votes and have 1,514 points.
Wisconsin (9-1), which had its dream of an unbeaten season dashed with a 49-14 loss at Michigan State, dropped five spots from fourth to ninth.
California (8-1) moved up two spots from sixth to fourth following a 42-12 rout of Washington. Georgia (8-2) fell five spots to 10th.
Texas (9-1) needed to stage a fourth-quarter rally to post a 27-23 victory at Kansas. The Longhorns moved up two spots to fifth and are just ahead of unbeaten Utah (10-0), which posted a 45-28 victory at Wyoming.
The Longhorns are sixth in the BCS Standings, also just ahead of the Utes. The top six teams in the BCS Standings receive an automatic berth to a BCS bowl.
Michigan (9-1) is seventh and is followed by Florida State (8-2), Wisconsin and Georgia.
Louisville (7-1) is 11th and is followed by unbeaten Boise State (9-0), which narrowly avoided a shocking upset with a 56-49 double-overtime victory at San Jose State.
Coming off a big win at Virginia, Miami (7-2) is 13th followed by LSU (7-2) and Virginia Tech (7-2).
Tennessee (7-2) comes in at No. 16 followed by Iowa (8-2), Virginia (7-2), Boston College (7-2) and West Virginia (8-2). Boston College posted 36-17 win at West Virginia on Saturday to take control of the Big East Conference race.
The final five are Arizona State (8-2), Texas A&M (7-3), Oklahoma State (7-3), Bowling Green (8-2) and Texas El-Paso (7-2). Bowling Green and Texas El-Paso are new to the rankings.
Northern Illinois (7-3) and Texas Tech (6-4) fell out of the rankings.
