Weis hires three ex-head coaches

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Former head coaches David Cutcliffe,
Bill Lewis and Rick Minter joined the staff of new Notre Dame coach
Charlie Weis on Monday night.

Cutcliffe, fired as the coach at Mississippi last month and an
assistant at Tennessee during Peyton Manning's years with the Vols,
is Notre Dame's assistant head coach for offense and quarterbacks
coach.

Lewis, who was head coach at Wyoming, East Carolina and Georgia
Tech before joining the staff of the Miami Dolphins nine seasons
ago, will be assistant head coach for defense and defensive backs
coach.

Weis named Minter his defensive coordinator and linebackers
coach. Minter, the defensive coordinator at South Carolina this
season, also held that position at Notre Dame in 1992-93 before
becoming head coach at Cincinnati.

Weis' offensive coordinator and running backs coach will be
Michael Haywood, a former Notre Dame player and most recently
running backs coach, assistant special teams coordinator and
recruiting coordinator at Texas.

Other assistant coaches named by Weis on Monday are Rob Ianello,
receivers and recruiting coordinator; John Latina, offensive line;
Jerome "Jappy'' Oliver, defensive line; Bernie Parmalee, tight
ends and special teams; and Brian Polian, assistant defensive backs
and special teams coach.
