BERKELEY, Calif. -- California quarterback Nate Longshore had surgery Sunday to repair a broken bone in his left leg.

The surgery confirmed the original diagnosis of a fractured fibula, and no further damage was found, the school said. He is expected to miss three months.

Longshore, the redshirt freshman who won the starting job over Joe Ayoob, broke his leg near his ankle late in the first half of the 19th-ranked Golden Bears' 41-3 win over Sacramento State on Saturday.

He was 8-of-11 for 131 yards with a touchdown and an interception before getting hurt while completing a 44-yard pass to Sam DeSa late in the first half.

Longshore attempted to hobble off the field before falling to the turf. Team trainers helped him to the sideline and put him on a cart.
