Louisville senior DE Dumervil wins Nagurski Trophy
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Louisville senior defensive end Elvis Dumervil won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Monday night as the best defensive player in college football.
Dumervil, the Division I-A leader with 20 sacks and 10 forced fumbles, edged Virginia Tech cornerback Jimmy Williams, Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans, Oregon tackle Haloti Ngata and Penn State end Tamba Hali in voting for the award.
The 13-year-old award is presented by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. It's named for the former Minnesota All-American, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The 6-foot, 256-pound Dumervil helped the Cardinals (9-2) earn a spot in the Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech.
