STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Chuck Priore, who has led Trinity to 30 straight wins over the past three seasons, was hired by Division I-AA Stony Brook to become just the second football coach in the school's history.

Priore led Division III Trinity to four consecutive New England Conference championships, and its current winning streak is second only to Southern California's 34 in all divisions of the NCAA.

"This is a great opportunity for me to go from Division III to I-AA," Priore said Wednesday.

Starting with the 2006 season, the Seawolves and all other members of the Northeast Conference will be able to offer up to 30 football scholarships.

Priore was 39-9 in six seasons at the Hartford, Conn., school.

He succeeds Sam Kornhauser, who retired after 22 years at Stony Brook. Stony Brook was 6-4 last season and earned a share of the Northeast Conference championship for the first time.
