Sun Devils hire Wittke as QB coach, O-coordinator
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Former Arkansas assistant Roy Wittke was hired Friday as Arizona State's new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Wittke replaces Mark Helfrich, who left last month to become offensive coordinator at Colorado.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to bring a coach with the experience and background of Roy Wittke into our program," Sun Devils head coach Dirk Koetter said. "I know he will step in here and help us continue our offensive success."
Arizona State, with junior Sam Keller and redshirt freshman Rudy Carpenter at quarterback, ranked third in the nation in passing in 2005 with a 373.4 yard average and was ranked second in total offense at 519 yards a game.
Wittke has 26 years of collegiate coaching experience and spent 13 years at Eastern Illinois, where he was an assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and running backs coach.
He was also an assistant coach at Montana State (1982-84) and Central Missouri State (1985-1989).
