TEMPE, Ariz. -- Al Simmons, cornerbacks coach at San Jose State, was named to the same position at Arizona State on Friday.

He replaces Mark Carrier, who was named secondary coach of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens last month.

Simmons spent nine seasons as a collegiate assistant at California from 1998 through 2000, at Oregon State in 2001 and 2002, and at San Jose State last year.

He also was an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers and participated in the NFL's minority fellowship coaching program with Oakland in 1993, Arizona in 1996, San Diego in 1999 and Dallas in 2000.
