Three Things I Can't Wait To See This Fall In The Big 12

Colt McCoy1. Whether the quarterback will be Colt McCoy, Jevan Snead or some godforsaken Applewhite-Simsian combination of the two, Texas will try to defend its national championship with a quarterback who has never taken a snap. The other issue concerning the Longhorns is the age-old issue for any No. 1. How hungry is Texas?

Adrian Peterson2. Adrian Peterson ran on one ankle last season and still gained more than 1,000 yards. If the Oklahoma junior can stay healthy this season, not only will he win the Heisman but he'll return the Sooners to contention for the national championship on his way to being the top pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

3. We're not asking for much, just some sign of life in the Big 12 North. In the interim, if I had to pick a team to emerge from the mediocre, I'd pick Nebraska. We'll know Sept. 16, when the Huskers play at USC. That game could be the springboard, or the Huskers could put so much emphasis on it that a loss would crush their spirit.
Mason Crosby1. Can Mason Crosby kick a 70-yard field goal? The Colorado senior has the strongest leg I've ever seen, and new Buffaloes coach Dan Hawkins believes Crosby has a chance to break the NCAA record.

2. Does Adrian Peterson return to freshman form, win the Heisman and/or go pro? The Oklahoma running back toiled behind a leaky line and had to play hurt last year. With better blocking and 13 healthy starts, he's a 2,000-yard guy -- and a first-round draft pick.

Mack Brown3. How does Texas handle Life After Vince? There is still champion-level talent in Austin, but is there still championship-winning charisma and leadership? And will Mack Brown revert to his former tense self without Young around to keep him loose -- and make all those big plays?
