Baylor promotes Hoefer to defensive coordinator
WACO, Texas -- Baylor promoted Larry Hoefer to defensive coordinator Wednesday to replace Bill Bradley, whom the school said was hired as a secondary coach by the San Diego Chargers.
Hoefer coached safeties on Baylor coach Guy Morriss' staff the last six seasons -- four at Baylor and two at Kentucky. The 32-year coaching veteran was the defensive coordinator at Missouri in 1991 and UTEP in 2000.
"With spring ball just around the corner, I felt it was very important to maintain continuity within the program and promote Larry," Morriss said.
Hoefer also has coached at Tarleton State, West Texas A&M and Texas Tech. He spent five years coaching at Texas high schools as well.
Baylor's defense improved from 92nd to 63rd nationally in Bradley's first two seasons as defensive coordinator but was among the nation's worst last year at No. 110.
