New Michigan St. uniforms will have names restored on back

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Something old, something new,
something white and something green.

Michigan State on Saturday unveiled new football uniforms that
blend high-tech material with traditional styling.

The uniforms are made of a new, more durable lightweight stretch
material that replaces heavier knit fabric, offering improved
ventilation and retaining less moisture. They produce "a tight
shrink-wrapped fit that minimizes grab points for opponents to hang
onto," Nike said in a statement released by the school.

Last names have been restored to the backs of the jerseys;
then-coach John L. Smith had the names removed in 2003 in an effort
to promote team unity.

The Spartans will debut the uniforms in the Sept. 1 home opener
against UAB.
