Day off from soccer, football for kicker Buchholz leads to violation
CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson has reported a secondary violation to the NCAA for the way the Tigers handled placekicker Mark Buchholz's day off.
Buchholz is playing soccer and football for the Tigers, and soccer coach Trevor Adair and football coach Tommy Bowden have been giving him different days off.
But NCAA rules require an athlete to have one full day off from all sports, athletic spokesman Tim Bourret said.
The school has reported the situation as a secondary violation, but it will not affect Buchholz's eligibility to play either sport, Bourret said.
Adair and Bowden will start working together to make sure Buchholz get a day off from both sports every week, Bourret said.
