ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech senior Tashard Choice, the ACC's leading rusher with 864 yards and seven touchdowns, will have an MRI exam on his injured right knee Monday, Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey said Sunday.

Choice injured his knee in the first quarter of Saturday's 34-10 win over Army at Bobby Dodd Stadium. He ran nine times for 26 yards with one touchdown before he was hurt. Choice, a transfer from Oklahoma, lay on the turf for several minutes and was helped to the sideline by trainers.

After the game, Choice told Georgia Tech spokesman Dean Buchan to tell reporters the injury "ain't serious." A day later, Gailey didn't sound so sure.

"He's having an MRI tomorrow and we'll know more after that," Gailey said. "I think it's necessary. They don't do those [tests] just on a whim. They have a reason to order an MRI when they do them."

Gailey said he was still confident Choice's ailment was a season-ending injury, but said he his hope was "based more on wishful thinking than anything medically."

The Yellow Jackets (5-3) don't play Saturday. They face No. 11 Virginia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 1 (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.).

If Choice can't play against the Hokies, he'd probably be replaced by Rashaun Grant, who injured his ankle late in the Army game. Gailey said Grant will be limited in practice this week. Freshman Jonathan Dwyer has run 281 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Choice has been a workhorse for the Yellow Jackets, carrying 167 times in eight games. Dwyer is second on the team with 48 carries.
